ACETAL

Also known as...

POM, POM-C, POM-H, Delrin, Sustarin, Tecaform

Available colours...

Commonly Natural and Black, but also available in Blue and other colours.

Applications...

Food applications, Skid / sliding applications, Gears, Rollers, Electrical components

Features...

Commodity plastic featuring high mechanical strength and dimensional stability. Acetal has low moisture absorption and, as such is suitable for underwater applications. The material features low friction, and good sliding properties. Acetal is a rigid material, with good overall chemical resistance. It is also electrically insulative.

Temperature range...

Range -50C to 110C

Cost...

MEDIUM

Misc info...

Food approved material. Excellent to machine, produces high quality finishes. Available in Co-polymer (POM-C), Homopolymer (POM-H), PTFE filled grades (Example - Delrin AF). Co-polymer material has better chemical resistance the homopolymer. Homopolymer has improved mechanical properties and increased temperature range (note - POM-H has higher cost and reduced range of stock sizes). Note: High abrasion leads to degradation of Acetal.

Range...

Acetal rods available from 6mm dia through to 500mm dia as standard. Sheets are available from 0.5mm through to 150mm thick. 2000 x 1000mm sheets and 620mm wide x 1m and up to 3 mtr. Extruded tubes are available (although stocks may vary).
